I see soooooo many tips and tricks on the internet about diet and exercise, but there is also another component to a successful health journey. I see posts about it, but I don’t think it gets the attention that it deserves. Yes you have to be disciplined and eat right and exercise, but being healthy is strongly a mental feat as well. The world is filled with temptation, doubt, drama, negativity… but staying focused and positive is just as important as eating the right foods and exercising. With this post I’m going to take a break away from the traditional diet and exercise tips and focus more on the mental aspect of maintaining a healthy, happy life.
Positivity. Think about it; it’s no secret that stress can impact our weight loss efforts, and positivity is just on the other end of that spectrum. I am a firm believer in positive affirmations, mental well-being, the law of attraction, you reap what you sow, etc. If you are not familiar with these trainings I encourage you to look into them. You are about to make a change that you need to sustain for the REST OF YOUR LIFE. That requires a strong mental stability if you ask me. Having a positive mentality will help reduce stress levels, which we know how that can physically effect us, as well as keep you motivated to keep going. If you tell yourself you can’t do it over and over eventually you begin to believe it. You know the saying “when it rains it pours?” Well the same thing can happen in a positive way rather than a bunch of things going wrong. We all know that one person who just seems like they have the best luck in the world. Generally everything falls into place for them, they are busy, energetic, happy, and we think that it’s easy for them to be happy when they have everything going their way. But, in reality, everything goes their way because they have a positive attitude and stay motivated.
Unfortunately the majority of our society focuses on drama and has a “misery loves company” kind of attitude. But you don’t have to be one of those people. If you are struggling or having a bad day, frustrated, annoyed… whatever negative emotion it may be, you need to stop, take a breath and remember the things you are thankful for and the things that are going good in your life. Even if you hate your job and it doesn’t pay much, be thankful that you have a job because some people don’t. The more you appreciate what you have the more you will be able to obtain. The more you give, the more you will receive.
I know some of you are probably thinking “I didn’t do anything to deserve the cards I was dealt.” I know I’ve felt that way quite a few times. Sometimes the results take a very long time to come full circle and it may take a very long time to realize why a situation happened to you. Just remember to be patient, thankful, persistent, and consistent in the direction towards your goal. Every single day you should do at least 1 little thing that brings you closer to that goal.
I encourage you to schedule activities that you find relaxing and mentally refreshing on a daily basis; mental health is just as important as physical health. It’s okay to take a mental health day and take time to reboot. Maybe you have to get up an extra 30 minutes early to enjoy a cup of coffee in silence and read a book that you haven’t had a chance to get to in awhile. Maybe it’s lighting candles and taking bath. Whatever pastime you enjoy, FIND TIME TO DO IT. You will be glad you did, I promise 🙂
If you are interested in any of the trainings that I touched on in the beginning of this post, I would look into experts like Tony Robbins and Dani Johnson. Even if you don’t agree with everything they have to say, I’m sure you will find some value in what they have to offer.
Here are some of the trainings that I’ve invested in:
Dani Johnson: First Steps to Wealth* … I know this one might seem out of place; she does talk about steps to becoming wealthy, but she also talks about overcoming hurdles in your life and how to maintain a positive attitude.
I hope you find some motivation with this post. I know I may not be telling you anything you don’t know, but I think a lot of us forget sometimes so I just wanted to bring a little light to the subject 🙂
What are some of the things that help you stay motivated and focused?
